"In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute." - Thurgood Marshall

Person-First Language identifies someone as a person with multiple facets rather than as their diagnosis, race, or ethnicity.  Person-first language means saying “Black residents” instead of “Blacks” or “people with diabetes” instead of “diabetics” to avoid reducing a person to their perceived or actual racial identity, illness, or proximity to power.
